The Ministry of Sports, Culture and The Arts plans to capture profiles of all sportsmen and women on national assignments to make them compliant with the Government’s Integrated Finance Management Information System (IFMIS).

According to the Principal Secretary for Sports Development Amb. Richard Ekai, this information will enable the Ministry to be posting player’s allowances directly into their accounts instead of paying the same through federations.

Addressing members of the press at the Kenya school of law,  Amb. Ekai said laws governing transfer of funds prohibit sports officials from carrying large sums of money on cash, hence electronic cash transfer remains the best option to pay sportsmen.

“Once all data has been profiled, the complaints of players not being paid their allowances on time will be a thing of the past”, said Amb. Ekai.

Meanwhile the Government was forced to intervene looming crisis in Athletics Kenya (AK) after a number of players besieged the AK offices for two days demanding resignation of some officials implicated in corruption and embezzlement of funds.

The players also demanded for the AK constitution to reviewed as a matter of urgency to give room to seasoned sportsmen and women to play a greater role in the administration of  athletics in Kenya.

During a heated meeting held at the Nyayo stadium under the chairmanship of Amb. Ekai, the meeting resolved that any official mentioned in corruption scandal at the AK should step aside to allow for thorough investigations.
